The Wonder

The Wonder is a melancholy tale about the impact of religion on society. The film is entrenched in strong themes and symbolism that is pervasive throughout its runtime: food, religion, blood, and stories. The repetitive scenes, such as the girl saying her prayer; the nurse eating her meals at the inn; or the nurse taking drugs at the inn, all add to the slow and uneasy build up of the movie.

Are crypto currencies bad due to their energy usage? Lots of things use tons of energy, and have massive environmental impact: Mastercard, VISA and other payment processors. These are large companies, who’s networks not only use a lot of energy, but on top of that they have buildings, employees, events and more that all consume a ton of energy. Training on Rails

The next step in my journey into Ruby was learning Rails. Rails is a completely different language than vanilla Ruby. In fact, I would say its a bigger jump from vanilla Ruby to Rails, than it is from Python 2 to Python 3! First of all, Rails adds a ton of utility functions as extensions to the core language. This is particularly easy to achieve in Ruby since even the primitive types are objects that can be extended.

Crossing the Rubicon

Recently, since I started my new job at ID.me, I have had to learn Ruby. I had no previous experience in Ruby or Rails, so this will be a python nerd’s first introduction to Ruby. Upon quick inspection, Ruby feels similar to python in many ways, so I don’t expect it to be too difficult to pick up. Hopefully as I wade through the tall grass I can point out where the snakes and gems lie.
